First CDMP's for Southern Africa

It is with great pleasure that The Data Management Association of Southern Africa (DAMA SA) announces that Southern Africa has its first two Certified Data Management Professionals (CDMP).

DAMA SA President, Sue Geuens and Education Director, Ana Moreira attended the recent DAMA International/ Wilshire Conferences Enterprise Data World Conference in San Francisco in March 2010. DAMA and the ICCP offer delegates the chance to attend a half day CDMP preparation course and write the exams over the 4 day period of the conference.

There are currently only just over 1000 qualified CDMP’s in the world, so this is not only a prestigious qualification, it is well-respected internationally and nationally.

3 exams must be written and passed to obtain the CDMP. Work experience, presentations both nationally and internationally, writing of articles and white papers are further requirements. A CDMP is required to recertify every third year.

Both Sue and Ana have spent many years in Data Management and are constantly working to improve their knowledge and ability to service their clients who range from Telco’s, through Government and Quasi-Government Organisations and the range of Financial Institutions. Their recent success in obtaining this qualification will certainly bring a further range of knowledge and skills to the forefront for their clients.

The CDMP consists of 2 core exams, one in Information Technology and one in Data Management and the choice of a range of electives, ranging from Data Development through to Business Intelligence/ Data Warehousing. The 110 question multiple-choice questionnaire is provided through computer based testing and the results are available immediately on completion of the exam.

With the successful qualification, DAMA SA will be able to offer these exams here in Southern Africa to prospective examinees. Both Sue and Ana are qualified proctors for these exams.

DAMA SA will be offering 2 CDMP bootcamp courses in South Africa during July – one in Gauteng and one in the Western Cape. These initial 2-day bootcamp courses will be presented by one of the DAMA International/ ICCP Liaison Officers. Exams are offered as part of the course and students may very well have qualified at the end of the bootcamp.

Organisations who may wish to run their own bootcamp course are invited to contact Ana Moreira at education@dama.org.za for more information. Registrations for the CDMP bootcamp courses in either Gauteng or Western Cape will be open during May 2010.

DAMA SA would like to congratulate both Sue and Ana on their achievement and wish them success in their careers.
